Steps

  1. Add Compressor to Target Track

Select the track you want to duck (e.g., bass or pad). In the Audio FX slot, navigate to Dynamics > Compressor.

  2. Enable Sidechain Input

In the Compressor plugin window, click the 'Side Chain' dropdown menu in the upper right corner. Select the track or bus that will trigger the compression (e.g., your Kick drum track).

  3. Set Compressor Parameters

Set a low Threshold so the compressor activates easily. Use a high Ratio (4:1 or higher). Set a fast Attack and a medium Release for a pumping effect.

  4. Adjust to Taste

Play back your project and fine-tune the Threshold, Attack, and Release to get the desired ducking/pumping effect.
