Steps

  1. Load Transistor Bass

Open the Channel Rack, click 'Add' (the plus icon), and select 'Transistor Bass' from the instrument list. This will open the synthesizer's interface.

  2. Select Waveform and Filter Type

Choose between the 'Saw' and 'Pulse' waveforms in the 'OSCILLATOR' section for the foundational sound. In the 'FILTER' section, select a filter type like 'Ladder' or 'Scream' to shape the tone of your bassline.

  3. Craft an Envelope and Sequence

Adjust the 'ENV MOD' parameters (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release) to create the characteristic acid envelope. Open the Piano Roll for the Transistor Bass channel and sequence a classic 303-style pattern, utilizing slides and accents.

  4. Automate Filter Cutoff and Resonance

Right-click the 'CUTOFF' and 'RES' (Resonance) knobs and select 'Create automation clip'. Draw in automation curves in the Playlist to add dynamic movement and emphasize the iconic 'squelch' of the 303 sound.
