Steps
Load Fruity Compressor into Mixer
Open the Mixer (F9) and select the desired Mixer track or master track. In an empty FX slot, click and choose 'Fruity Compressor' from the effect plugin list.
Adjust Threshold and Ratio
Click on the Fruity Compressor slot to open the plugin. Lower the 'Threshold' knob until the gain reduction meter starts moving, indicating the compressor is active. Increase the 'Ratio' knob to control how much the signal above the threshold is compressed, with higher ratios leading to more aggressive compression.
Set Attack and Release
Adjust the 'Attack' knob to control how quickly the compressor reacts to the incoming signal. Use a fast attack for tight, percussive sounds, or a slow attack to let transients pass. The 'Release' knob determines how quickly the compressor returns to its idle state; set it to a natural decay for the sound.
Apply Gain and Mix
Use the 'Gain' knob (sometimes labeled 'Make-up Gain') to compensate for the volume lost during compression, bringing the overall level back up. The 'Mix' knob (Dry/Wet) allows you to blend the compressed signal with the uncompressed signal for parallel compression effects.
