How to Use EQ (Equalizer) in FL Studio

Learn the fundamentals of equalization in FL Studio to carve out frequencies and improve your mix clarity.

Steps

  1. Insert Parametric EQ 2

Open the Mixer (F9). Select the mixer track you want to EQ. In the effects slot, click on an empty slot and select 'Fruity Parametric EQ 2' (a standard and powerful EQ in FL Studio).

  2. Identify Problem Frequencies

Play your track. Use the EQ's bands (numbered 1-7) to sweep around the frequency spectrum. Boost a band with a narrow Q (quality) setting and sweep it across frequencies to identify harsh, muddy, or बॉक्सy resonances. When you find a troublesome frequency, reduce its gain.

  3. Cut Unwanted Low Frequencies (High-Pass Filter)

Use Band 1 or another band set to 'High Pass' or 'Low Cut' filter type. Drag its gain down towards the left to remove unnecessary low-end rumble from instruments like synths, guitars, or vocals, leaving space for the kick and bass.

  4. Boost Desirable Frequencies

Identify the 'sweet spots' of your instrument. For example, boost around 2-5kHz for presence in vocals/snares, or 50-100Hz for body in kicks/bass. Use a wider Q setting for musical boosts, and narrow Q for surgical cuts.

  5. Compare Before and After

Regularly toggle the EQ plugin on and off (click the green LED next to its name in the Mixer) to hear the difference your adjustments are making. Avoid over-EQing. Less is often more.
