Steps

  1. Load DirectWave into Channel Rack

Open the Channel Rack (F6) and click the '+' button to add an instrument. Select 'DirectWave' from the generator plugin list to load the sampler.

  2. Load a Sample or Program

Click on the DirectWave channel button to open its interface. Drag and drop an audio sample directly onto the DirectWave window, or navigate to the 'Program' tab and click the folder icon to load a pre-made DirectWave program or instrument from your library. You can also right-click the empty sample display and choose 'Load Sample'.

  3. Map and Edit Zones

In the 'Zone' tab, you can see how your sample is mapped across the keyboard. Adjust the 'Root Note', 'Low Key', and 'High Key' parameters to define the sample's playable range. Use the 'Loop' section to set start and end points for looping, and adjust 'Loop Mode' for different playback behaviors.

  4. Shape Sound with ADSR and Filters

Navigate to the 'Amp' tab to adjust the sample's volume envelope (ADSR). In the 'Filter' tab, select a filter type and adjust the 'Cutoff' and 'Resonance' to sculpt the sound. Use the 'LFO' tab for modulation effects.

  5. Route to Mixer and Play

Assign the DirectWave channel to a Mixer track in the 'Channel Settings' window if not already done. Play notes on your MIDI controller or piano roll to hear your sampled instrument in action.
