How to set latency compensation

Optimize your FL Studio projects by learning how to set and manage latency compensation for precise timing and phase.

Steps

  1. Access Audio Settings

Navigate to 'Options > Audio settings' from the top menu bar. This window displays crucial audio driver information and latency controls.

  2. Adjust Buffer Length

In the Audio settings, locate the 'Buffer Length' slider. A lower buffer size reduces latency but requires more CPU power, while a higher buffer size increases latency but reduces CPU strain. Set this based on your system's performance.

  3. Enable Plugin Delay Compensation

For automatic latency compensation, ensure 'Automatic' is selected under the 'Plugin delay compensation' dropdown menu in the Mixer. Alternatively, you can right-click on a Mixer insert and choose 'Compensation > Automatic' or 'Compensation > Manual' for specific adjustments.

  4. Manually Adjust Delay Offset (if needed)

If you experience specific timing issues with a plugin, open the Mixer and select the problematic insert. In the 'FX' slot section, there is a small 'Delay' knob where you can manually offset the track's timing in milliseconds.
