Steps

  1. Choose a Sample or Synth

Load a clean 808 sample into an 'Audio Clip' channel or utilize a synthesizer like '3x OSC' or 'Sytrus'. If using a synth, start with a sine wave or triangle wave as your base waveform.

  2. Pitch and Length Adjustment

In the Sampler (for samples) or the synth's envelope, adjust the 'Decay' and 'Sustain' to control the 808's length, typically a short decay and zero sustain. Ensure the root note is set correctly (e.g., C5 for samples).

  3. Add Saturation/Distortion

Route the 808 channel to a Mixer track. Add effects like 'Fruity Blood Overdrive' or 'Fruity Fast Dist' to an effect slot to introduce harmonics and make the 808 more audible on smaller speakers. Experiment with the Drive and Pre-Band controls.

  4. Compress and EQ

Insert 'Fruity Limiter' (set to compressor mode) or 'Fruity Compressor' to control dynamics and add punch. Use 'Fruity Parametric EQ 2' to gently boost sub-frequencies (around 40-60 Hz) and cut unwanted mud (around 200-300 Hz).
