Drag and Drop MIDI Files into FL Studio
The simplest method is to drag a .MID file directly from your computer's file explorer or the FL Studio Browser into the Playlist or onto an instrument in the Channel Rack. FL Studio will automatically prompt you with import options.
Use the Import MIDI Data Dialog
When dragging a MIDI file into the Playlist, the 'Import MIDI data' dialog box will appear. Here, you can choose to 'Start new project', 'Append to current project', or select specific channels/tracks within the MIDI file to import.
Open MIDI in Piano Roll for Specific Channels
If you drag a MIDI file onto an existing instrument in the Channel Rack, it will automatically populate its Piano Roll (F8) with the MIDI notes. This is ideal for assigning MIDI to a specific synth or sampler.
Import Via Top Menu (File > Import)
Alternatively, go to 'File > Import > MIDI file...' in the FL Studio top menu. This will open a file browser to locate your .MID file and then present the 'Import MIDI data' dialog for further options.
