How to use Ableton Link

Connect multiple devices and apps wirelessly using Ableton Link for tempo-synced jamming.

Steps

  1. Enable Link

    Go to Preferences > Link, Tempo & MIDI and toggle Enable Link. Or click the Link button in the top-left corner of the transport bar.

  2. Connect other devices

    Ensure all devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. Enable Link in other apps or instances of Ableton — they'll auto-discover each other.

  3. Set Start Stop Sync

    Enable Start Stop Sync if you want all linked apps to start and stop together. This is optional — tempo sync works independently.

  4. Adjust tempo

    Any linked participant can change tempo — it updates for everyone in real-time. The tempo field shows how many peers are connected.
