Steps
Set Up Your Desired Starting Project
Begin by opening a new Live Set and configure it exactly how you like your projects to start. This might include specific track counts, send/return tracks, preferred instruments or effects on tracks, routing, tempo, and global quantization settings.
Add Devices and Routing
Drag and drop your favorite instruments (e.g., 'Drum Rack', 'Sampler') and audio effects (e.g., 'EQ Eight', 'Compressor') onto tracks. Configure send/return tracks for reverb, delay, etc.
Save as Default Live Set
Once your template is ready, navigate to 'Live' > 'Preferences...' (Cmd+, / Ctrl+,). In the 'File/Folder' tab, click the 'Save Current Set as Default' button under 'Default Live Set'.
Creating Named Templates
For multiple templates (e.g., for different genres), instead of setting as default, save your configured set traditionally ('File' > 'Save Live Set As...') into a dedicated 'Templates' folder within your User Library or anywhere you prefer. Then, you can drag this .als file into your current project or open it directly.
Start a New Project with Your Template
To use your default template, simply open Ableton Live or go to 'File' > 'New Live Set'. To use a named template, find it in the Browser under your User Library (if saved there) and double-click, or open it directly from its saved location.
