Steps

  1. Load Sample into Simpler

Drag an audio sample from the Browser onto a MIDI track in Ableton Live. By default, this will automatically load the sample into a Simpler instrument.

  2. Activate Slicing Mode

In the Simpler device, click the 'Slice' tab to activate Slicing Mode. This will transform the waveform display into a slicer interface, ready for segmenting your audio.

  3. Adjust Slicing Parameters

Use the 'Slice By' dropdown to choose your slicing method (e.g., Transient, Beat, Region, Manual). Adjust the 'Sensitivity' or 'Grid' parameters to fine-tune the slice markers along the waveform.

  4. Convert Slices to MIDI

With the slices set, right-click on Simpler's title bar and select 'Slice to New MIDI Track'. Choose your preferred drum rack or individual MIDI tracks to create a playable instrument from your sliced sample.
