Steps

  1. Enable Scale Mode

Open a MIDI clip in the Detail View. Click the Scale button (the piano/key icon) in the MIDI Note Editor toolbar. When enabled, the piano roll highlights notes that belong to the selected scale.

  2. Choose Root Note and Scale

After enabling Scale, two dropdowns appear. Select the Root Note (C, D, E, etc.) and the Scale type (Major, Minor, Dorian, Mixolydian, Pentatonic, etc.).

  3. Fold to Scale

Enable the Fold button alongside Scale to hide all non-scale notes from the piano roll. This makes it impossible to place notes outside the chosen scale and simplifies the view.

  4. Scale Highlighting

With Scale Mode on but Fold off, in-scale notes are shown with brighter rows and out-of-scale notes are dimmed. This gives you a visual guide while still allowing chromatic notes when needed.
