Steps

  1. Add the Chord MIDI Effect

Drag the 'Chord' MIDI Effect device from the 'MIDI Effects' category in Ableton Live's Browser onto a MIDI track, before your instrument. This will transform single incoming MIDI notes into chords.

  2. Define Chord Intervals

In the Device View, use the 'Shift' knobs (Shift 1, Shift 2, Shift 3, Shift 4) to specify the semitone intervals for the additional notes that will form the chord. For example, Set Shift 1 to +4 and Shift 2 to +7 for a major triad.

  3. Adjust Velocity and Transpose

Use the 'Vel' parameter for each shifted note to control its individual velocity, adding dynamic expression to the chord. The 'Transpose' knob allows you to shift the entire chord up or down in pitch.

  4. Utilize Random and Velocity Spread

The 'Random' control introduces subtle, irregular pitch variations for each chord note, while 'Velocity Spread' applies a random velocity deviation, both contributing to a more natural and less mechanical sound.
