Steps

  1. Identify Fill Sections in Playlist

In the Playlist, locate the sections where you want to add a drum fill, typically at the end of an 8- or 16-bar phrase. These are usually 1 or 2 bars long.

  2. Create a New Drum Pattern

Duplicate your main drum pattern in the Channel Rack and make it unique, or create an entirely new pattern. This ensures your fills won't overwrite your main beat.

  3. Program Dynamic Fill Patterns

In the Piano Roll or step sequencer of your new fill pattern, program faster, more intricate rhythms using various percussion elements like snares, hi-hats, and crashes. Experiment with velocity and quantize settings for a natural feel.

  4. Add Automation and Effects

Automate parameters like pitch, cut-off, or reverb send on individual drum sounds within the fill to create rising or swelling effects. Use Fruity Limiter for transient shaping or Fruity Reeverb 2 to add space to your fill.
