Steps
Display Automation for a Track
Select the track you wish to automate in the Tracks area. Press 'A' on your keyboard to reveal the automation lanes for that track. By default, the 'Volume' automation parameter will be displayed.
Create Automation Points
With the 'Volume' automation lane visible, click directly on the yellow automation line to create automation points. You can add multiple points and drag them up or down to increase or decrease the volume at specific times.
Edit Automation Curve and Shape
Click and drag between two automation points to create a curve for smoother transitions. Hold 'Option' and click an automation segment to insert a curve handle, allowing for more nuanced shaping of the volume changes. For precise values, double-click an automation point.
Use Automation Modes
In the track header, access the 'Automation Mode' menu (usually set to 'Read'). Switch to 'Latch' or 'Touch' to record automation in real-time as the project plays. 'Write' mode will overwrite existing automation. Remember to return to 'Read' mode when finished recording automation.
