Steps
Add a Compressor to the Target Track
Select the track you want to duck (e.g., bass or pad). Drag the Compressor from the Audio Effects browser onto this track.
Enable the Sidechain Section
In the Compressor, click the small triangle next to 'Sidechain' to expand the sidechain options. Toggle the 'Sidechain' button on.
Choose the Sidechain Source
In the 'Audio From' dropdown, select the track that will trigger the sidechain (usually your kick drum track). Set the tap point to 'Post FX' or 'Pre FX' as needed.
Adjust Threshold and Ratio
Lower the Threshold until the compressor starts reacting to the kick. Set the Ratio between 4:1 and 10:1 depending on how aggressive you want the ducking effect.
Fine-Tune Attack and Release
Set a fast Attack (0.01–1 ms) so the compressor reacts immediately. Adjust Release to taste — shorter for a tight pump, longer for a smooth swell.
