Steps

  1. Display Fade Handles in Arrangement View

In Arrangement View, ensure 'Fades' are visible for audio clips. Go to 'Options > Appearance > Show Fades' and make sure it's checked. Alternatively, press the 'F' key to toggle fade handles visibility.

  2. Create a Fade-In or Fade-Out

Hover your mouse over the top-left corner of an audio clip to create a fade-in handle, or the top-right corner for a fade-out handle. Click and drag the square handle horizontally inwards to create the fade. A curved line will appear, representing the fade curve.

  3. Adjust Fade Curve Shape

To change the shape of the fade curve (linear, exponential, logarithmic), click and drag the small circular handle that appears in the middle of the fade line. Moving it up or down will adjust the curve's concavity.

  4. Create a Crossfade

When two audio clips are adjacent and partially overlapping on the same track, click and drag the gray square that appears in the overlap region. Dragging left or right will create a crossfade between the two clips, determined by their overlap.

  5. Edit Gain in Clip View

Double-click an audio clip to open its Clip View. In the 'Envelopes' tab, select 'Clip' from the first dropdown and 'Volume' or 'Gain' from the second. You can then draw precise volume automation directly on the clip using breakpoints, offering more detailed control than simple fades.
