How to use Spectrum analyzer

Analyze frequency content of your audio in Ableton Live using the Spectrum device for better mixing decisions.

Getting Started · intermediate level

Steps

  1. Load Spectrum on a track

Drag Spectrum from Audio Effects onto any track you want to analyze. Place it at the end of the effect chain.

  2. Read the frequency display

The horizontal axis shows frequency (20Hz to 20kHz) and the vertical axis shows amplitude in dB. Watch for problematic peaks or resonances.

  3. Adjust display settings

Change Block size for resolution (larger = more detail). Adjust Range to zoom in on specific dB ranges. Choose between Block, Average, and Max display modes.

  4. Use for mixing decisions

Place Spectrum on your master bus to check overall frequency balance. Compare the spectrum of your mix against reference tracks to identify issues.
