Steps
Monitor CPU usage
Watch the CPU meter in the top-right corner of Ableton. If it regularly exceeds 80%, you need to optimize.
Freeze tracks
Right-click a track and select Freeze Track. This renders the track to audio temporarily, freeing up CPU from plugins.
Increase buffer size
Go to Preferences > Audio and increase the Buffer Size. Larger buffers reduce CPU load but add latency.
Disable unused devices
Turn off effects you're not actively using by clicking the device power button. Deactivated devices use zero CPU.
Flatten frozen tracks
Right-click a frozen track and select Flatten to permanently convert it to audio, removing the plugins entirely.
