MIDI keyboard and MIDI tools in Studio and Plugin Studio
Play Plugin Studio instruments with a MIDI or computer keyboard and use the free Tools in Music-Prod Studio.
Music-Prod Studio: Downloading, updating, permissions, and the free Tools in the Mac app.
Steps
- To play a Plugin Studio instrument on the website (music-prod.com/plugin-studio), connect your MIDI keyboard and use Chrome or Edge. In any browser, you can click the on-screen keyboard or use the computer keys A to L.
- To download MIDI files (needs Music-Prod+), open MIDI under Library in the Music-Prod Studio sidebar, or browse at music-prod.com.
- Music-Prod Studio's Tools (sidebar ▸ Workshop ▸ Tools) are free, run on your Mac, and use no credits and no uploads. Available now: MIDI Converter, Chord Library, Scale Generator, Progression Generator, BPM Tap, MIDI Editor, Drum Pattern Generator, Audio Analyzer, Hook Creator, File Converter, and Chord-Scale Mapper. Since Studio 2.0.74, every tool opens full-window; Esc goes back to Tools.
- The tools that make MIDI have a transport bar: Play/Stop (Space), Loop, Click, the tempo, and a sound picker for each part (Music-Prod Synth and Keys sounds, Drum Synth kits, or General MIDI instruments).
- In the MIDI Editor, write chords and a melody on a piano roll with a velocity lane: grid, Snap to key, Quantize, Transpose, Undo/Redo (⌘Z / ⇧⌘Z), suggestions for the next chord (optionally shown as ghost notes), and "Fill empty chord slots".
- When your part is ready, open Export in the transport bar and choose "Export MIDI…" or "Export Audio (WAV)…".
Troubleshooting
Your MIDI keyboard doesn't play Plugin Studio in the browser
On the website, a MIDI keyboard works in Chrome or Edge. In any browser, you can click the on-screen keyboard or use the computer keys A to L.
Using ChordEngine in Logic Pro, FL Studio, or Ableton Live
ChordEngine is an AU MIDI FX, an AU instrument, and a VST3 (macOS 12+). It is tested in FL Studio and Logic Pro; Ableton Live is still being tested. In Logic Pro, ChordEngine's MIDI FX appears in the MIDI FX slot.
Some tools in Workshop ▸ Tools say "Coming later"
Those tools aren't available yet. The ones listed as available now in this guide work today.
