Mac permissions (Accessibility, Screen Recording, Microphone) and how to fix "Not allowed"

Set up macOS privacy permissions for CoProducer and fix permissions that still show as "Not allowed".

Music-Prod Studio: Downloading, updating, permissions, and the free Tools in the Mac app.

Steps

  1. Studio's startup screen, "Allow Music-Prod Studio on this Mac", lists what CoProducer needs, and its status updates by itself. Later, use Settings ▸ Permissions in Music-Prod Studio (a warning dot on Settings means something required is missing).
  2. Turn on Accessibility (required for Work in DAW; it lets CoProducer click and type in your DAW): open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Accessibility and turn on Music-Prod Studio.
  3. Turn on Screen Recording (required for Work in DAW and for Listen to my DAW): it lets CoProducer see the DAW window while it works, and lets Studio hear only the DAW's own audio while Listen is on. Open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Screen & System Audio Recording (called Screen Recording on older macOS) and turn on Music-Prod Studio.
  4. Microphone is optional: it is for CoProducer's Record button (a take of up to 30 seconds for CoProducer to listen to). macOS asks the first time you click Record, never before. If you refused it, turn it on in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Microphone.
  5. If Studio still says "Not allowed" after you turn on Accessibility or Screen Recording, quit and reopen Studio: these two often need a restart.

Troubleshooting

Permission is turned on in System Settings, but Studio still says "Not allowed"

First quit and reopen Music-Prod Studio. If it still says "Not allowed", select Music-Prod Studio in that list in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security, remove it with the "–" button, add it again with "+", and restart Music-Prod Studio. Old entries from earlier versions can get in the way.

Want to bring back the startup permissions screen

In Music-Prod Studio, open Settings ▸ Advanced ▸ Permissions screen and click "Show Again". "Skip for now" is allowed on that screen, but Work in DAW won't work until the permissions are given.

Does Music-Prod Studio need Full Disk Access, Automation, Input Monitoring, or Camera?

No. Studio doesn't need Full Disk Access, Automation, Input Monitoring, or Camera. macOS may ask about Files & Folders when CoProducer first saves to Downloads.
