Granular synthesis sounds intimidating but it's actually super intuitive once you understand the basics. You're basically chopping audio into tiny "grains" and rearranging them. Try it with a vocal sample - slow down the grain size and you get these beautiful textural pads. Pigments and Portal are great for this.
