Focusrite has updated its legendary Scarlett line with the 5th generation, bringing 32-bit float recording, redesigned preamps, and a completely new software suite. We put the Scarlett 2i2 5th Gen through comprehensive testing.

32-Bit Float Recording

The headline feature is 32-bit float recording, which means you essentially never have to worry about clipping your input. The dynamic range is so vast that even recording a whisper and a scream in the same take produces clean, usable audio. This is a game-changer for podcasters and vocalists.

Preamp Quality

The redesigned "Air" preamps sound noticeably different from the 4th gen. There's more harmonic richness in the Air mode, and the standard preamp mode is cleaner with lower noise floor. In our A/B tests, the difference was subtle but audible, particularly on acoustic instruments.

Software Bundle

Focusrite has overhauled the included software bundle, now featuring Ableton Live Lite 12, a full version of Focusrite's new "Creative Suite" with reverb, delay, and compression plugins, and 3 months of Splice access.

At $179 for the 2i2, it remains the best value audio interface for beginners and intermediate producers.
